Now you might read more into the title than is necessary, but in fact it’s one of the most basic things that you can do. Especially in the Winter and when Winter Rules are in play, always use them to the fullest extent. After all it’s not cheating.
If you are new to golf or still in your early days, my observation is all too often that golfers are frightened to pick up their ball and clean it, why? I honestly don’t know but it’s a basic thing that you should do during the Winter months after almost every shot and during the Summer you simply need to tell your partner before picking it up.
I mean, it’s not like you’re playing for £100,000 around your local municipal is it? For crying out loud enjoy the game and don’t worry about fuddy-duddy old whiners if you play in a new group the odd time.
To get to the heart of this post, keep your balls clean or golf alone, means that if you fail to do this fundamental thing then expect to spend a lot of time away from your golf buddy while you play crap shot after crap shot look for all those wayward shots that could have been avoided.
Now if you’ve agreed to play a round with the most boring chuffer at work, then yeah keep your towel clean – speak only on the green and swing like an Olympic Hammer Thrower off the Tee.
But if you go out for a round with your pal then you might want to indulge in some conversation out on the course and following simple rules like cleaning your ball will help you bore the crap out of your pal have a lot more conversation and a more enjoyable round of golf.
Clearly, you need to cut the Hammer Throwing Thing loose as soon as possible, this can have terrible consequences for your card and can make you dizzy as a blonde on a merry-go-round lasting damage to the course.
Joking aside, the moral is to always use the rules to their maximum extent to gain maximum pleasure and enjoyment from playing the game, and after all it’s not cheating it’s just common sense.
